Lantern's Christian ethos is very important and this helps to provide a warm, caring environment in which children are safe to explore, learn and discover through play. We make available a rich variety of activities that encourage imaginative play, creative skills and constructive abilities. We foster independence and social awareness. In addition to free play each morning there is a directed activity within a small group.

Lantern is registered and inspected by Ofsted. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage four themes, covering the seven areas of learning. For more details, click here.

Our emphasis is on learning through doing. In our planning we are alert to the requirements of the National Curriculum so that children are well prepared for their entry into 'big' school.

We encourage the enjoyment of books through our book corner and daily readings of stories and rhymes.

Each year we incorporate visits to places of interest such as Noah's Ark Farm Centre and Bristol Zoo. We also arrange visits from people of interest. Recently these have included the police and the fire service as well as a doctor, a nurse and a postman.

Each morning begins with a brief prayer and ends with the singing of songs. We also hold a service at the end of each ‘big’ term to which families and friend are invited – these are brief and colourful opportunities to celebrate Christmas or Easter, or to say farewell to those who are leaving to go on to primary school.
